I started off the design for The secret diary of Adrian Mole with a clear vision that there would be a giant diary and a boy is stuck between the covers. The way the giant pages of the book overlap his entire body seems like a hint of a secret that tickle the reader`s curiosity, which can only be satisfied by reading the book. By using key visuals with a colorful palette, I wanted to emphasize on the age of the boy (adolescend), but with such a dark purple background, it also suggested that this young man’s mind is older than he looks.

The first version I came up with wasn’t very successful, being quite mundane and lacked focus points. I was much more satisfied with the final version, especially with the idea of putting his stationaries behind the titles, which again, suggested that this boys’ secrets would be revealed in this book.
